From: Debora
Dear Jessica, I adore horse-sense and can't thank you enough for all the help you give us. I live in a small community and depend on magazines and books for most of my horse information. Horse-sense is the most incredible resource I have ever seen or heard of in the horse world. Thank you for your wonderful generosity!
My question is a simple one, or at least I hope it will be simple for you to answer it. I am very interested in herbs and herbal remedies, and I have a few very old books about veterinary care in which herbs are mentioned. Is there a modern resource for someone like me who wants to know about herbs that may be used for horses? And is there a source for the actual herbs?
Thank you again. Your fan, Debora
Hi Debora -- you're very welcome, and thank YOU for your kind words. They are appreciated. ;-)
Yes, it's an easy question to answer!
There is a book that should suit you well. The author's name is Hilary Self, and the title of the book is A MODERN HORSE HERBAL. I believe that it retails for $40 or so.
Ms Self is also one of the co-founders of Hilton Herbs, Ltd., which is a good source for herbs. You should be able to get both the book and the herbs from one source: call Katrina Prull at 1-800-743-3188. She owns a company called Chamisa Ridge (located in New Mexico) that sells many books including this one, and handles Hilton Herbs. There is also a Chamisa Ridge catalogue, which I'm sure Katrina will be glad to send to you.
