We are considering planting bamboo at the rear of our property for
erosion control. Is bamboo toxic to horses in any way. I do not want to take a chance on our horses being harmed by any plant that may be toxic.
Thanks,
Diane
Hi Diane! Let me suggest that you use something else -- call your county exension agent and ask for advice on suitable plantings. I don't know whether bamboo is toxic to horses, but I can assure you that it will be bad for your pasture, and your neighbor's pasture, and....
Bamboo is one of the most invasive plants imaginable, and if you plant it at the rear of your property, it will shortly be in the middle of your property, and then it will be at the front of your property. Meanwhile, it will also be making your neighbors very unhappy (unless they WANT to have a good crop of bamboo on their property).
I love bamboo too -- it's very beautiful. But sadly, it's not really compatible with pastures. :-(
