I was out on a trail ride with my mare. We were heading back home at sunset but still a ways out from home. We were cantering and I noticed my saddle starting to slip. As my foot began to slip out of the stirrups I was trying to maintain my balance and slow down my horse. Unfortunately, the saddle gave way and the momentum was to much. I fell off to the side and slid about 8 feet head first. Thank goodness I had my helmet on as I passed over a lava rock on the way down. Bless her heart, my little mare stopped and looked back at me like "what are you doing down there?" I was fine because of my helmet just a bit sore the next day.
